Artfest 2012, Part deux

I awoke with great anticipation for Day 2 of classes at Artfest - I was going to sew with Junker Jane!  I signed up for the Journal Bag class.  Oh how fun to be collaging with fabric again!  I hadn't done this in so long.  Splashing the canvas with colorful patterns, the whir of the sewing machines, snowflake stitches and hand sewn French knots - oooh! ahhhh!  Junker Jane, aka Catherine Zacchino, is so inspiring and encouraging.  The whole class LOVED what they did.

This is Junker Jane, aka Catherine Zacchino, the creator of the most adorable monster dolls ever!

Catherine's inspiration boards were so fun to see.  I LOVE her monster drawings/paintings!

 More inspiration.

The class was like a candy store for fabric junkies.  This is a luscious sample from Tina's stash.

Tina's journal bag - check out the cap she made for her lady!  And the doll arms she discovered from Catherine's stash!

Here is Suzanne proudly displaying her deer head journal bag.  The coolest thing was that she said she didn't have much sewing experience, and look how great her bag turned out!  I love the wood grain  fabric she used for the plaque.  Just every detail about it makes me smile!

This is the bobbin side of my journal bag.  When Catherine saw this she thought it would make a cool bag itself.

My journal bag all finished.  The image is a photo of one of my dolls.  I also added the green tulle so my bag would have a tutu, and topped it off with Junker Jane and Christine Benjamin pins on the scallops.  I had fun wearing it for the rest of Artfest!

I decided I had to make another one!  This is a shopping bag size.  I used a photo transfer of another one of my dolls, some of my stash, and contributions from Tina - the striped placemat background, and Catherine - the skull fabric for the cowboy boots!  It's still a wip as I add on buttons, yoyos, and do some quilting.  Next I want to attack my roller bag!

That night was vendor night.  Upon entering the pavilion I ran to the place where Junker Jane was supposed to be.  I checked with Tracy and found out they weren't there yet...argh!  But I kept my eye on that space and raced back over when I noticed a crowd gathering.  Stretching to peek over the shoulders in front of me, my inner voice was urging them to hurry up and MOVE!  Finally I broke through to the front line.  Oh, these dolls, so adorable each one, how to choose???  EEEEEeeEEE!!!  I saw Kitty Cat Gingersnap and grabbed her, hugged her, and immediately fell in love.  I had to adopt her.  *Sigh*  She's mine.
Here she is back home with another kitty love, Miss Charlene (and the little kitty on my pin cushion!).

I splurged on some other treasures as well, but haven't taken photos yet.  Maybe tomorrow.

Oh, before vendor night, it was such a lovely afternoon that I decided to take another beach walk, but this time in the sunlight.  This is what I saw:

Vista to the left

The Aquarium Center

Forget Me Not

Driftwood

A secret message in a secret alphabet

Afternoon shadow
Beached carcass
I know the carcass is a little gruesome, but I found it sculpturally so fascinating.  Look how the toe bones pop out from the feet.  I can picture a very interesting doll evolving from this!

The class looks scrumptious. I love the feel of fabric.
And the carcass is quite interesting. What kind of creature was it? I'm always fascinated by skeletal and muscular structure.
Good to see you again, friend.

I took pix of the carcass as well! I dont know what it was but it was beautiful. The modeling of the muscle was really quite stunning! I have always been fascinated with Andreas Vesalius drawings. I think that's why I studied paleopathology and then on to nursing!

I pondered for a long while over what kind of carcass it was, too. At first I thought pinniped because of the direction of the feet, but - it has a small tail, and as far as I know seals and sea lions do not have tails. Hmmm...

Maybe an otter...

Junker Jane might be cool, but you´re my favorite! And I really do like Tina´s too, have to admit. Hope you make many more. They really capture your whole array of color and "funability" :-)

I, too, love Junker Jane's dolls. So happy you made it to the head of the line and were able to purchase one for your own self!
